Once on the verge of extinction, the Aplomado Falcon now hunts and nests on the coastal prairies of the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. Since the first speedy falcon took wing in 1993, more than 900 falcons have been released in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
We found this beautiful bird sitting on a fence post on our way into Laguna Atascosa.
