This is the wiring that runs the hydraulic pump that makes
our slides go in and out! Mark said
there were only 2 strands still intact.
We trapped a couple of little mice when we first got to
Colorado this year. We’re not sure when
this damage was done, it could have happened in Colorado or go back to when we
were at Laguna. Either way, we’re just
glad we caught it before the slides quit working.
That was a close one! Good catch. I wouldn't even know where to look for the slide wiring.
ReplyDeleteI guess regular checks pay off. Good work. -Rick
ReplyDeleteWhen did you discover it? Did the slides move slowly or what?
ReplyDeleteI was vacuuming the big storage area, and decided to open the compartment that the hydraulic pump resides in. I saw the chewed wires and a chewed rubber grommet. I don't know how long the wires had been damaged, but the slides have been working fine!
ReplyDeleteThank God it was in a place where it was visible!!!
DeleteYes. The chewed wire was about 1" from a place where it disappears into a hole under the trailer. I had barely enough wire to splice. I think that I'd have had to pull the belly pan off of the trailer if the chewed spot was any further in. Ugh...
DeleteWe just left our rig in Ohio for a couple of weeks... Bill put a string of LED lights under the hood (and maybe lights elsewhere)... along with a couple boxes of DeCon... hoping to avoid problems like yours. We've dealt with chewed wires in the past... a real bummer, huh?
ReplyDeleteI'll bet that with lights and DeCon you'll be fine. Hate those little rodents!!
ReplyDeleteAh ha! ! ! ! Wondering if that is what the problem is with our microwave oven. We have caught a few mice on that side of the motorhome that also houses the microwave. Oh yuck....
