South Padre - more pictures, and a quiz

Quiz - do you know what this bird is? Remember - this is winter, non-breeding season.

The answer is at the end of this post.

Redhead - Hens and a Drake
Female Redheads regularly parasitize each other's nests, as well as the nests of at least 10 other duck species.

Reddish Egret
Reddish Egret's come in two colors. They are either dark or white for life, beginning with the downy state in the nest. Mated pairs may be of the same or different color morphs, and broods of young may include either or both morphs.

Red-breasted Merganser - Feeds mainly on fish.

Northern Pintail - One of the most numerous duck species in the world.

Northern Harrier - The only Harrier in North America.

Did you guess the quiz?

Pied-billed Grebe - The most wide-spread grebe in the New World.
Pied means two or more colors, in blotches.

Here is a picture of a Pied-billed Grebe taken last February. In this picture you can see where he gets his name.
