Ship Harbor, Maine

Mount Desert Island is about a 45-minute drive from our RV site.  This is where Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are located.

We found a new place to explore on the Island called Ship Harbor Trail.  There is a very nice, short, hiking trail that leads straight to the ocean.

We found a Common Yellowthroat singing at the top of a spruce tree next to the park lot. Look at all of the new purple cones.

Along the way there are lots of pretty flowers to see.

It wasn’t long before we started hearing the ocean.

The sound got louder.

We started to hear the waves hitting the rocks.

Finally we walked through the edge of the forest.

We found another beautiful area.

Other than a lobster boat, we were the only ones here!

The water is nice and clear.

The tidal pools had the usual critters - snails, limpets, etc.  We didn't find any crabs or starfish though.

I took about 100 pictures trying to get the perfect wave to break over the rocks.

Another trail just a little way up the road is called Wonderland Trail.  It is 1.4 miles.  The trail used to be an old road.  It wanders through spruce and fir trees before ending at the ocean.  It’s another trail with beautiful views of the ocean.

We're glad we are close enough to the ocean to explore the area often.

    1. It is a little cool by the water but mainly the long pants are for hiking through brush.
